Hull Pottery Little Red Riding Hood

The Little Red Riding Hood cookie jar is one of the most notable pieces of Hull Pottery.  The two-piece jar consists of the head and shoulders covered by a red cloack and a basket under the right arm.  The lower body contains floral decorations on the dress as well as an oblong base painted with feet.  The bottom is incised "Little Red Riding Hood Line/Pat. Des. No. 135889/U.S.A." or a slight variation of this.  It is made of white earthenware with red, yellow, tan and violet glaze, the interior being made with clear lead glaze.  The Red Riding Hood line was produced for some years and includes a variety of pieces including teapots, creamers, sugar bowls, salt and pepper shakers and string holders.  Most bear the name of the line and some include the additional mark of "Hull".  One of the most popular pieces of Hull Pottery, the Little Red Riding Hood series would surely make an excellent addition to anyone's pottery collection.
